Thanks to the correct leadership and strong support from all parties, the Confucius Institute at Debrecen University , after its grand opening last year and a good start, has withstood the severe test of the epidemic, successfully completed the final accounts of funding for 2019 and the budget for 2020, successfully completed the transition of Confucius Institute, and resumed classes on September 7.

Under the joint efforts of Chinese and Hungarian staff, CI is developing better and better. Not only all courses of Confucius Institute are listed as university credit courses, this semester the number of students to choose courses also increased significantly, the curriculum is more diverse. Until today, there are 48 students for various language courses, 8 for calligraphy courses, 60 for specialty courses -- Chinese film tour, 60 for lecture courses -- Chinese culture series, and 40 for martial arts -- Wing Chun Kung Fu, totaling 216 students. The total number of students has more than tripled compared with the first and second semesters, and three lesson types have been added.

New Hungary director Dr. Csontos Pál in August this year in the world book publishing company published the special interest teaching material -- "is not just a Hungarian folk songs", which was translated by the Hungarian language department teacher Miss. Ma Xiaoxuan , and it was reviewed by the director of that department Mr. WangBinglin. Dr. Pál donated the book to CI at the beginning of this semester and he also encouraged his wife to start to learn Chinese together.

In response to the adverse situation of the current rebound in the epidemic situation, the Confucius Institute has resolutely taken a series of targeted measures, such as temporarily limiting the number of students in language classes to no more than 8. Cultural classes are held in a larger space. Wear masks in class, wash hands, disinfect and ventilate before class; Plan ahead for online teaching during emergencies and so on.

For the upcoming National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival, CI will carefully organize small-scale cultural activities according to the budget plan, and this idea has the full support of Debrecen city government.

At the invitation of Director Pál, Dr. Puskas, deputy mayor of Debrecen, in charge of cultural and educational affairs, visited CI at the beginning of the semester. During the meeting, Puskas expressed his willingness to strengthen the cooperation between the local government and the Confucius Institute, and would greatly assist in the implementation of the Confucius Institute culture program operated at Debrecen University.

Both directors of CI expressed their sincere gratitude to Mr. Mayor, and looked forward to taking this as a starting point to continuously strengthen the in-depth cooperation between Debrecen, the second largest city of Hungary, and Tianjin, the industrial and commercial center and municipality directly under the Central Government in north China, in culture, education and even economy and trade. Mr. Mayor highly agreed with this.

Lectures on Chinese Culture

There are more and more Chinese students studying in Debrecen University. While focusing on teaching and improving the quality of cultural activities, the Confucius Institute will follow the guidance of Professor Zoltán Szilvássy, Rector of Debrecen University, to lead the young students to grow in activities and make progress in exchanges, thus serving as a good ambassador for China-Hungary friendly exchanges and cooperation.
